If you could have a meal in Toronto, what would it be?
Going on a road trip and passing through Toronto. Ideally, I would like some local and memorable, something that I can not get anywhere else, but I'm not aware of any Toronto traditional food. I have a Philly cheesesteak at Pat's in Philadelphia lobster sandwich at Louie's Alive and Kicking Lobsters Boston, soup, raw oysters and clams New England J Oyster Lodge in Portland, poutine in Quebec, etc. My trip is basically the best scenic routes and local cuisine.
The price is not a major concern, but nothing too fancy (ie course meals white fabric).
The CN Tower is overpriced tourist swill. My first answer would be high-end sushi at Hiro or Kaji, but I'm not sure that is "set" in Toronto. Toronto is a melting pot of cultures (including New York) minus a final food. If someone was visiting for a meal that I felt define who "we" are in Toronto (opting-out of the cynical route out of control channels), I would opt for Indian, Chinese or Vietnamese. Maybe in Chinatown Dim Sum. I agree that if you are having poutine is better to have it in Quebec (which has been my experience that make it better.)
