Recently, a man who was well informed of Vince Gironda contact me. He told me some stories about the old guru "iron" I had not heard before. It made me think about Vince.

Before, when I started bodybuilding course I bought all of Vince. I read all the articles he wrote for International MuscleMag, too. That old curmudgeon was far ahead of his time! I really knew all the secrets to building a great physique quickly.

Here is one of the secrets of Vince that few have heard of …

I am almost reluctant to share this secret with you. It is so simple and easy I'm afraid you might take it off as a bunch of BS. But trust me … that really works!

Vince was a believer that it is necessary to grow to keep your body in positive nitrogen balance. " This protein media (the only nutrient containing nitrogen) must be constantly available in your bloodstream.

When you eat a meal with protein, the body breaks down protein into amino acids. These amino acids only are available in the bloodstream for a couple of hours. If you do not get a little more protein there within two to three hours, you'll be in "balance negative nitrogen. "This means that your body is using and excreting more nitrogen than is taken in.

In order to prevent it from happening, it is necessary maintain a constant source of high quality protein coming into your body.

Vince was an advocate of using "concentrated food sources." These are Foods that contain protein and nutrients they need but do not contain a large amount of excess carbohydrates and calories that take up much space in your stomach, allowing frequent feedings.

He was not a believer in stuffing a lot of food down the throat to grow and gain much weight. He used to say: "How much do you think an extra inch on your arms will add to the scale?

Vince had many students gain an inch on their arms within 30 days by a simple 3-5 liver tablets every hour. This ensures a positive nitrogen balance, without excessive of carbohydrates and calories.

Stories of some of the old timers telling phenomenal gains being made in tablets of 100 plus liver a day are common.

Why it works so well?

According to Vince, desiccated liver contains nucleic acids for use appropriate amino acid, a growth factor and an anti-estrogen factor, which maintains high levels of testosterone, and also a great anti-toxin.

In a classic experiment, Dr. BH Ershoff demonstrated that liver extract was able to increase strength, resistance, yield and resistance to stress and disease. In short this is how it happened:

Dr. Ershoff took three groups of rats and fed controlled diets for a period of twelve weeks. Group one ate a basic diet fortified with vitamins and minerals. The second group ate everything I wanted in the same diet plus B vitamins and brewer's yeast. Group three ate the basic diet but had 10% desiccated liver added to their rations.
