Is it good to put a raw egg with the dry food to cats?
I recently read that most cats do not receive adequate nutrition, because the food being fed is not designed for your needs. He said that cats get most of their moisture and protein foods in nature that kill and dry foods are not good because cats should not eat starches such as rice and corn and the moisture and protein levels are too low. He suggested that if diets took too long and premium canned food was too expensive, you could put a raw egg in his dry food and occasionally may help. Is this true? With how often should be the case? What are the benefits? What are the dangers? Thank you.
If you are going to use raw eggs with their cats should make sure they are "free" range, organic eggs. And whites are not good for rough use. You can lightly boil or poach an egg until the whites are "done" and the yolk is still soft. Eggs are a good source of vitamin A that cats can not do on their bodies and is added in the form Dust to most commercial cat food. Vitamin A is a fat soluble vitamin and any excess is stored in the liver of the cat which can cause problems. So do not make it more than twice a week. You should read the references given in raw diets. In Dr. Jean Hovfe http://www.littlebigcat.com also has a Article entitled "Easy homemade recipes for dogs and cats." After reviewing all the material that you will have a better idea of how much egg to use. Raw chicken livers are also a good source of vitamin A for your cats can eat them. Again, a portion of liver once a week should be sufficient. Heart of raw chicken are good sources of taurine, which is soluble in water and you do not have to worry about overdosing. Chicken gizzards are also a good source of taurine and are quite hard to chew for a cat who is not used to that. Of course, the sweetbreads are excellent "toothbrush" if their cats be addressed. At the time they have tried everything a chopped raw chicken wing provides calcium, lean muscle to balance the diet.
